These pictures were taken at RNAS Yeovilton on September 29 2001 at a reunion open to all ex-Sea Vixen fliers, maintenance crews and partners. There were also some aviation enthusiasts in attendance.

The Sea Vixen required both engines to be started individually using pressurized air tapped from the compressor of a Palouste starter. A Palouste being based on a small gas turbine engine. The problem on this day was that the ground crew could not get the bayonet-fit metal nozzle, on the end of the Palouste hose, to connect to the aircraft's engine. This was a problem sometimes met in FAA service where, because of the awkward posture required due to limited ground clearance, it was easy to bur the metal fitting enough to inhibit engagement of the bayonet fitting.

A replacement part for the Palouste hose had been organised from Hurn Airport and was ferried to Yeovilton by light aircraft. I have a picture of the new part being walked from the light aircraft once it had come to a halt on the hardstanding (apron to US citizens) if anybody is interested.
