The Airey Issue 9 cover

The Airey Fairey Issue 9 cover (above) was based upon images relating to the ceremony on the occasion of the laying up of the old Fleet Air Arm Association Standard and the dedication of the new in September 2002. This took place at RNAS Yeovilton (HMS Heron) and St. Bartholemew's Church, Yeovilton village.

The front cover, main picture, shows Admiral Sir Raymond Lygo K.C.B., Fleet Air Arm Association Patron, receiving a commemorative plaque from the then Fleet Air Arm Association Chairman Bill Watson. The inset on the front cover depicts Sir Raymond Lygo taking the salute at the march past of Fleet Air Arm Association and Branch Standard bearers and of the members platoons.

The rear cover:

Top; the line up of the standards in attendance,

Centre; Fairey Swordfish 'City of Leeds' performing a display piloted by (the late) Lt. Cdr. Bill Murton with Mr Tony Smith and Mr Neil 'Fraz' Fraser in the back as ballast,

Bottom, left; FAAA Chairman Bill Watson escorting Admiral Sir Raymond Lygo K.C.B., Rear Admiral Scott Lidbetter (Flag Officer Maritime Aviation - since retired) and Commander Peter Morgan D.S.C. Executive Officer of HMS Heron to St Bartholemew's Church,

Bottom right; standard bearers turned ready to step off into the church behind the Senior Officers and FAAA Chairman.

The inset on the front cover is from a print kindly supplied by the Photographic Section, HMS Heron. All other pictures by the author and editor.
